In case you didn't know, I was born and raised in South Korea. I love Korean food! I am so glad that my husband loves it, too! So I try to make some Korean food every once in a while. Korean spicy pork is one of our favorites, along with Bulgogi. If you're into spicy food, you have to try this dish.
Korean Spicy Pork
Ingredients:
2 lbs pork sirloin (very thinly sliced)
1 medium onion (sliced)
1 Serrano chili (chopped) (optional)
1 red chili (chopped) (optional)
3 green onions (chopped)
1 tablespoon oil
Direction:
Cut the pork into bite sized pieces. Heat oil for stir-frying. Add pork and cook it until it is cooked. Add onion, serrano chili, red chili, and green onions and cook for another 2 minutes. Meanwhile, mix all the sauce ingredients (sauce ingredients follow) and pour it into the pan and reduce the heat to low-medium. Cook it until the sauce thickens. Sprinkle sesame seed and serve with rice.
Spicy pork sauce:
3-5 tablespoons Korean red pepper paste (Go-choo-jang) *If you love spicy food, use 5 tablespoons or even more. If you can't handle the spice very well, use less (2-3 tablespoons)
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 spoon of ginger, minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 tablespoon sugar
1/2 tablespoon honey
1/2 tablespoon sesame oil
Salt and pepper to taste
Sesame seed (to sprinkle)
This is the kind of red pepper paste that I used. It tastes pretty good. You can find it at any oriental grocery stores. If you don't see it, just ask the cashier. They should know.
Or just get this pre-made spicy pork sauce! We've tried it many times and we LOVE it! It's a CJ brand and probably the best. If you prefer home-made sauce, that's okay, too. Take your pick!
Mmmm.... Yummy! Enjoy!
This Korean pork dish certainly does look fabulous! I'll have to bookmark this recipe :)
